Designer
Tord Björklund
Tord Björklund was one of IKEA’s most consistently credited in-house designers across the turn of the century. His name appears on catalogue pages from 1982 to 2018, more than three decades of continuous presence, co-credited on hundreds of pieces spanning sofas, armchairs, tables, lamps, and small home furnishings. In effect he was one of the authors of the visual DNA that Europe associates with 1990s and 2000s IKEA.
Notable credits include the KARLANDA sofa and the LINDRIS bookcase. Björklund also turns up frequently on lighting spreads, including the RAPID lamp (1974–1995) held in this archive. For many buyers, “classic IKEA” of that era, functional, formally neutral, mass-production-ready but legibly Scandinavian, is in large part his work.
