Anna Efverlund

Anna Efverlund is the designer whose name is most strongly associated with IKEA’s children’s world around the turn of the century. In the catalogues she appears principally on toy and children’s-lighting spreads, ANEMON, ATOLL, BLÄCKFISK, BUBBLOR, FISK, KORALL, KRABBA, LÖMSK, SKÖLDPADDA, MAMMUT, and others. Many of these are lamps and accessories in the form of sea creatures or stylised animals; the BUBBLOR collection remains a recognisable example.

Efverlund belongs to the cohort of IKEA Children designers who, through the 1990s and 2000s, gave the brand’s kids’ rooms a coherent, imaginative visual register distinct from the calm, neutral language of the adult catalogue. Her appearance as a co-credited author on the BLIMP (2006) projection-lamp spread places her inside the broader children’s lighting concept of that era.
