Mikael Warnhammar
Mikael Warnhammar is a Swedish designer who has worked within IKEA of Sweden’s in-house design team since 1997. His first project for the company was the VÄRDE modular kitchen, a freestanding system that let buyers assemble a kitchen unit by unit rather than as a fitted whole. Much of his work centres on kitchen function; he has described drawing on professional restaurant kitchens, where every tool has its own place and stays within reach.
That thinking carried into the GRUNDTAL series, a range of stainless steel rails, shelves and hooks meant to lift everyday equipment off the worktop while keeping it close at hand. Alongside the kitchen systems, Warnhammar contributed to IKEA’s storage and home-accessory ranges through the late 1990s and early 2000s. The KLUNSA clocks, an aluminium wall and table pair documented in the 2001 catalogue, sit within this accessory work: a brushed metal frame and a plain dial in the spare, hardware-led idiom of the period.
